More Than Fabric: Why We’re Hosting a Free Flag Exchange in Paso Robles
There’s a moment that happens when you take down a flag that’s been flying too long. The edges have frayed. The colors have faded under the Central Coast sun. And you stand there holding it, not quite sure what to do next — because you know it deserves better than the trash, but you’re not sure what “better” looks like.
A lot of people I talk to have that exact flag sitting in a garage or a closet right now. So this June, we’re doing something about it.
From June 8th through the 12th, Ted Hamm Insurance Agency is hosting a free American Flag Exchange for our community. If your flag has become worn, faded, or damaged, bring it by the office. We’ll help you retire it respectfully, and we’ll send you home with a brand-new one — at no cost, no strings, no sales pitch.
Why a flag, and why now
I’ve spent more than two decades helping people protect what matters to them. In insurance, that usually means a home, a business, a livelihood, a family’s future. But protection isn’t only a policy. Sometimes it’s a gesture. Sometimes it’s just showing up for the people and the values that hold a community together.
A flag isn’t only fabric. It stands for service, for sacrifice, and for the freedom we get to wake up to every day. Behind that symbol are real people — the veterans who served, the active-duty military still serving, the first responders who run toward the emergencies the rest of us run from, and the law enforcement that keeps our towns safe. This is a small, sincere way to say thank you to all of them.
It’s also a way to say something about who we are. We’re not a faceless call center. We’re your neighbors here on the Central Coast — and I want this agency to be known for more than the policies we write.
How the Flag Exchange works
It’s genuinely simple:
- Bring in your worn, faded, or damaged American flag.
- We retire it properly and respectfully on your behalf.
- You take home a new flag, free of charge.
No appointment needed. No purchase required. Just stop by during office hours that week.

Spread the word
Most of us know someone with a tired old flag they don’t know what to do with — a parent, a neighbor, a small business owner down the street. If that’s someone in your life, send them our way. Better yet, share this with them. Honoring the flag is something we’re meant to do together, and the more of the community we reach, the more meaningful that becomes.
I’ll be at the office that week, and I’d love to meet you. Come for the flag. Stay for the conversation. And know that whether or not we ever talk insurance, you’re welcome here.
Let’s honor the flag together. 🇺🇸
